We’re John and Shasta Walton, a husband-and-wife team with deep roots in lawn care service, handyman services, and military service. Our journey began two decades ago when we launched our first lawn care business in Sanford, NC while waiting to join the U.S. Coast Guard. That experience sparked our passion for outdoor work, but duty called, and our family embarked on an adventure that took us all over the country.

While stationed in Elizabeth City, NC, we started another lawn care business as a side hustle, building relationships and refining our skills. When we received orders to Alaska, we sold that business and embraced the challenges of military life, knowing that one day, we’d return to North Carolina for good.
After 22 years of Coast Guard service, we were ready to give our daughters a stable high school experience and finally put down roots. Wilmington, NC, was the perfect choice; close to family, full of opportunity, and just the right balance of coastal charm without the intense Florida humidity (Shasta’s deal-breaker!).
Why We Merged Our Businesses
We started with two businesses: Lawn Hero LLC for landscaping and lawn maintenance and Handy Heroes LLC for handyman services. However, we quickly realized that homeowners and businesses needed a one-stop solution for outdoor and indoor property maintenance. That’s why we merged to form Home and Lawn Hero, offering a full range of services under one trusted name.
